KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- An American service members was killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, NATO said.

The incident comes as the number of coalition casualties in Afghanistan continues to rise rapidly, with nearly one hundred service members being killed in June alone.

NATO said the American died as a result of injuries sustained in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan, but provided no other details.

Saturday's casualty follows a series of deadly incidents on Friday, which saw three American soldiers being killed.
