Light earthquake shakes southern California, felt in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (BNO NEWS) — A light earthquake shook southern California on Saturday evening, with reports of it being felt as far away as San Diego, seismologists said. There were no reports of damage or casualties.

The 4.4-magnitude earthquake at 8.08 p.m. PDT (0308 GMT Sunday) was centered about 12 miles (20 kilometers) southeast of Anza, an unincorporated community in southern Riverside County. It struck about 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center initially measured the strength of the earthquake at 4.8 on the Richter scale.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from Saturday’s earthquake, which was centered some 56 miles (89 kilometers) northeast of San Diego. People in San Diego reported feeling light shaking.
