President Obama nominates four individuals to serve on U.S. District Courts
WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) – President Barack Obama nominated on Wednesday four individuals to serve on the District Courts of North Carolina, Michigan, Columbia and Texas.
Obama nominated Marina Garcia Marmolejo to a Court Judgeship for the Southern District of Texas. Marmolejo is a partner in the firm of Reid Davis since 2009. She was previously an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Texas from 2007 to 2009.
"I am proud to nominate Marina Marmolejo to serve on the United States District Court. I am confident she will serve on the federal bench with distinction," Obama said.
Maria Elizabeth (Maribeth) Raffinan was selected to serve as an Associate Justice of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Raffinan is a supervising attorney in the Trial Division of the Public Defender Service for Columbia. There, she has represented indigent defendants charged with criminal offenses since 1999. "Throughout her career Maribeth Raffinan has shown a commitment to justice and public service. I am proud to nominate her to serve on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia," Obama commented.
Also on Wednesday, the U.S. President nominated Ripley Eagles Rand and Scott Bowen to serve as U.S. Attorneys for the Middle District of North Carolina and the Western District of Michigan respectively.
Rand is a Superior Court Judge for the State of North Carolina since 2002. He worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the Tenth Prosecutorial District of North Carolina from 1997 to 2002 before that.
Bowen has been the Commissioner of the Michigan State Lottery Bureau since 2008. Previously, he was the Director the Michigan Office of the State Employer from 2007 to 2008.
"I am proud to nominate these outstanding individuals to serve as United States Attorneys," Obama concluded. "They will be unwavering in their pursuit of justice and I am confident they will serve the people of North Carolina and Michigan with distinction."
