QUEENS, NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) – A Queens, New York man pleaded guilty to stabbing his wife to death, prosecutors said Friday.
Mohammad Solaiman, 51, of Jamaica, Queens who worked as a bus boy at a diner, stabbed his wife, Shahida Sultanna, 32, multiple times throughout her body, killing her on December 22, 2007, while their daughter was asleep. An autopsy determined that the victim had been stabbed approximately 251 times and strangled.
Solaiman began knocking on doors of several neighbors, alerting them of what had happened which prompted them to call police. When police arrived to the apartment, Solaiman opened the door covered with blood, standing with his four-year-old daughter and his wife’s body lying on the bedroom floor clearly visible to police from the doorway. He was immediately arrested.
“This brutal crime not only took the life of a young woman it left a small child without a mother. The helpless victim died violently. The defendant should be kept behind bars for the rest of his life,” District Attorney Richard A. Brown said.
Solaiman will face 15 years to life in prison when he is sentenced in April.
