South Korean PM Chung offers resignation to President Lee

By BNO News

SEOUL (BNO NEWS) -- South Korean Prime Minister Chung Un-chan on Thursday offered his resignation to President Lee Myung-bak to take responsibility for the government's failure to get parliamentary approval for a project to create a science-hub in the country.

It was not immediately clear if President Lee would accept Chung's resignation. But the Yonhap news agency earlier reported, citing a government source, that Lee would likely accept the resignation.

It is not the first time that Chung has offered his resignation to President Lee. During a meeting earlier this month, Chung expressed his strong intention to step down, but Lee asked him to stay in office.

Chung is a former college professor who was appointed to the top Cabinet position in September 2009. He has been a leading advocate of the "Sejong City" project, but his government failed to get parliamentary approval.
