Powerful earthquake strikes eastern Turkey
ANKARA (BNO NEWS) -- A powerful earthquake struck eastern Turkey on early Sunday afternoon, seismologists said, with preliminary readings as high as 7.5 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake at 1.41 p.m. local time was centered about 26 kilometers (16.1 miles) southeast of Ercis, a district in Van Province. It struck about 47 kilometers (29 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center.
