Vancouver man arrested for assaulting several people
VANCOUVER, CANADA (BNO NEWS) – A Vancouver man was arrested for violently assaulting several people, including his mother and another elderly woman, local authorities said Friday.
Randal Halderman, 48, violently assaulted his mother and several other people, causing a number of injuries to them after he arrived at their residence intoxicated. Authorities arrived to find 63-year-old Delores Medeiros suffering from an open head wound and other facial injuries consistent with being assaulted.
After arriving, Ruth Halderman, Randal’s 73-year-old mother, offered to drive him home, but Randal became upset and cursed at Ruth. When Medeiros intervened, Randal knocked her to the ground, punching and kicking her at her head and body. Ruth then tried to intervene, but Randal reacted violently, punching her in the mouth twice, splitting her lips open.
Ruth fled to a neighbor to get police assistance, and Randal continued to attack Delores, knocking her to the ground after throwing an approximately 5-pound glass candle holder at her. Randal continued to punch her and used a floor lamp to choke Delores, causing her to eventually lose consciousness. Randal left the residence when Ruth returned with the neighbor, and Delores was transported to a medical clinic for her head injury to be treated, which was not life threatening.
While local authorities were attending the case, they were receiving reports that a neighborhood resident had been assaulted in his garage without provocation, and it was later determined that Randal was the assault suspect, who lives in the same condominium complex.
About an hour later, another complaint was filed, concerning an unruly, drunk man that was bleeding and refusing to leave the property. The person was also identified as Randal.
Randal was taken into custody without incident. The Vancouver Police Domestic Violence Unit was advised, and Randal was taken into custody without incident for multiple assault charges.
