Delta airplane diverted to Tampa after reporting smoke in the cockpit

TAMPA, FLORIDA (BNO NEWS) — A passenger plane was diverted to Tampa International Airport on Thursday after smoke was seen in the cockpit, airport authorities said.

A Tampa International Airport spokesperson says Delta flight 531, scheduled from Atlanta to Cancun, Mexico, landed landed without incident at 11:00 a.m. ET on runway 18R.


The Boeing 757 taxied under its own power to Airside E, gate 71. All 164 passengers and crew onboard are safe. The flight is scheduled to depart for Cancun at 12:15 a.m. ET.
