U.S. Senator John McCain urged serious and immediate consequences against North Korea for sinking South Korean Navy vessel
WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – U.S. Senator John McCain on Thursday said that actions against North Korea must be serious and immediate after South Korea presented evidence that reportedly proves North Korea was behind the sinking of a South Korean Navy vessel.
“South Korea presented evidence today that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that North Korea was responsible for the sinking of the Cheonan, a South Korean Navy ship, which claimed the lives of 46 Korean sailors,” the Senator said
He continued, saying that North Korea’s aggression against a vital ally of the United States is unacceptable and the consequences must be serious and immediate. He urged the “community of responsible nations” to show solidarity with South Korea and to respond appropriately.
Senator McCain also urged the People’s Republic of China to work more responsibly than it has thus far for the security and stability of East Asia.
An international investigation into the incident revealed that the South Korean Navy vessel was sunk by a North Korean torpedo. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the report was “deeply troubling” and the White House said that the sinking of the ship was an “act of aggression” by North Korea.
