Bavaria expresses support to arrested Dutch women after alleged World Cup publicity stunt

LIESHOUT, THE NETHERLANDS (BNO NEWS) – Bavaria on Wednesday expressed their full support of the two arrested Dutch women, after an alleged publicity stunt during the World Cup match between the Netherlands and Denmark.

Several media reports say that 36 Dutch women were ejected during the game for allegedly advertising for the beer company Bavaria. The women were all wearing orange dresses, which had a small label on the thigh with the brewery’s name.

“Unfortunately, Bavaria has been drawn into the furor surrounding the arrest of the two ladies, who were wearing orange dresses worn by thousands of Dutch women and football supporters. Due to the association, Bavaria feels obligated to respond to the various questions put to it. Understandably, the well-being of the women is our biggest concern right now,” the brewery stated, claiming that FIFA could not be holding the arrested women responsible for their attendance at the match in their Dutch Dresses.

The brewery company said it was doing everything in its power to help the arrested women, arranging legal assistance, housing, and keeping close contact with their families. Bavaria also said it will be asking FIFA “to immediately stop what it feels is the intimidation of Dutch-Dressed female supporters. Bavaria takes no responsibility for the actions of FIFA.”

“If FIFA has any problems with our company, we would like to ask them to contact us directly, and not take action against innocent people wearing our orange dress. Until now, Bavaria has not heard anything from FIFA directly. The World Cup tournament should be an enjoyable event for all supporters, male and female, regardless of their outfits.”

Bavaria also said that the Dutch Dresses were released to generate pleasure and enthusiasm among soccer fans, as they do not have a big brand name logo. Over 200,000 orange dresses have been sold in supermarkets in the Netherlands with 8-packs of Bavaria beer.
