Times Square bomb suspect indicted on 10 terror-related counts
NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) — Terror suspect Faisal Shahzad, who is accused of attempting to bomb New York’s Times Square, was indicted by a federal grand jury in New York on 10 terror-related counts, local media reported.
Shahzad was originally charged with five counts but now he’s facing 10 terror-related counts, including a new weapons charge, WNBC-TV reported.
The new weapon charge was added because a semi-automatic weapon was found in a second vehicle on the night he was arrested.
On May 1, a mounted police officer was alerted to a smoking vehicle in New York City’s Times Square. It turned out the vehicle contained a crude car bomb that was intended to kill Americans, according to U.S. officials.
Shahzad was later arrested at JFK Airport as he tried to flee the country.
The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the failed terrorist attack and its believed that Shahzad received terror training from them.
