Turkey proposes free-trade area with East African Community
DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA (BNO NEWS) — Sander Gurbu, the Turkish Ambassador to Tanzania, expressed his country’s interest in establishing a free-trade and investment area within the East African Community (EAC) on Wednesday.
Gurbuz emphasized that having a free-trade area between the two sides would quickly enhance socio-economic development in the area. The negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement and an Investment Framework Agreement will take place in September.
Gurbu highlighted that Turkey has made remarkable developments in tourism and textile industries as well as having diverse skills in technology; all of which would be instrumental for an agreement.
“This will give an opportunity for businessmen from the EAC to freely trade with Turkey while the same would happen for Turkish business people,” Gurbu said
Gurbuz noted that the EAC has many tourist attractions that the Turkish government will promote and promised that a large number of tourists from Turkey will arrive in the near future. Finally he added that an official proposal will be soon presented.
