TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday accused the United States and NATO of providing financial and material support to terrorists, days after deadly bombings in southeast Iran.

Ahmadinejad said that American troops in Afghanistan and Pakistan sponsored ‘such acts of terror’, when referring to the bombings in Zahedan on Thursday.

The two suicide bombings, which targeted Shia worshipers and members of the Revolutionary Guards, happened at the Jamia mosque in Zahedan, in southeast Iran. Terror group Jundallah reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks, which left at least 27 people dead and injured nearly 300 others.

“These activities can only have been carried out by U.S.-backed terrorist groups who are deeply cruel and inhumane,” Ahmadinejad said, according to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

U.S. President Barack Obama condemned the bombings in a statement released by the White House on Friday. “The murder of innocent civilians in their place of worship is an intolerable offense, and those who carried it out must be held accountable,” Obama said.

But Ahmadinejad had a different opinion about Obama’s statement. “Even as NATO and U.S. forces are financially and logistically supporting the terrorists, the U.S. President sends a condolence message,” he said.

“If he doesn’t know about the activities of U.S. troops, I announce to him that the U.S. troops based in Afghanistan and Pakistan are supporting these events.”

Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani also blamed the United States on Sunday. “Today is a day of US shame for its involvement in the horrible crime,” he told members of parliament.
