CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) — An American soldier was killed in an attack in eastern Iraq on Wednesday, the U.S. military said in a brief statement.

The military said the vehicle in which the United States Division North Soldier was in was attacked by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the country’s Diyala province.

“Following the attack, the Soldier was treated on the scene by unit personnel and then evacuated to the Combat Support Hospital located at Joint Base Balad,” the statement said.

The identity of the soldier was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
