Afghan and coalition security forces deny civilian casualty allegations after detaining several insurgents
KABUL (BNO NEWS) — Afghan and coalition security forces detained several suspected insurgents and killed one in Logar province during offensive clearing operations over the last 24 hours, as allegations of civilian casualties have been confirmed false, U.S. Forces in Iraq said Tuesday.
Several areas suspected of having insurgent activity were targeted by Afghan and coalition security forces in the Charkh and Baraki Barak districts of Logar province.
Security forces discovered and destroyed a cache of multiple grenades and automatic weapons in Charkh district. As a result, several suspected insurgents were detained. At another location in the district, security force killed one man armed with an AK-47 after he attempted to engage members of the assault force.
West of Aladad Kheyl in Baraki Barak, a separate Afghan-led security force cleared and secured several compounds and detained several suspected insurgents after questioning all the residents.
“These offensive clearing operations remove insurgents from the area and help bring peace,” said Col. Rafael Torres, ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director. ”The ANSF (Afghan National Security Forces) with coalition forces are risking their lives every day combating the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan so that peace and stability can be enjoyed here.”
Security forces made sure women and children were protected throughout all of the searches and operations, but allegations of a civilian being killed were raised against the security efforts.
On Monday, ISAF was made aware of the allegations in the media regarding a civilian casualty incident in the vicinity of Charkh district, Logar province, but after conducting a thorough investigation of the alleged attack on Afghan civilians, Regional Command-East officials have determined the allegation is false.
“None of our operational reporting supports this unfounded claim,” said U.S. Army Maj. Patrick R. Seiber, Public Affairs Director of Regional Command-East.
