Dalai Lama to visit and offer teachings in San Jose, CA

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) — The Gyuto Vajrayana Center, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in San Jose, California, on Tuesday announced that the Dalai Lama has accepted their invitation to share his teachings on October 12.

The Dalai Lama will give a teaching entitled, “Eight Verses of Training the Mind: Awakening the Heart of Compassion,” which was written by 11th-century master Langri Tangpa.


Eight Verses of Training the Mind is a classic text in the genre of lojong, or mind training, which focuses on “purifying one’s attitudes to awaken an altruistic heart through methods such as developing appropriate regard for self and others, turning obstacles into opportunities for positive change, and cultivating compassion for all beings,” the center explained, as the Dalai Lama describes this work as one of his main sources of inspiration.

The Gyuto Center previously hosted His Holiness in 2007 for a 2-day teaching in San Francisco as the center expressed to be honored after the Dalai Lama accepted their second invitation to the Bay Area. The has begun selling tickets for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s teaching on October 12.

The teaching will be translated into Mandarin, Mongolian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.  Sign Interpretation will also be provided.
