Hezbollah to deliver evidence linking Israel to PM Hariri murder

By

BEIRUT, LEBANON (BNO NEWS) – Hezbollah said on Friday that it would deliver evidence that allegedly implicates Israel in the 2005 murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the Haaretz newspaper reported.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah claimed last Monday to have information that would assist with the investigation and showed a video that allegedly implicated Israel’s responsibility in the assassination.

In response, an UN prosecutor requested the leader of Hezbollah to hand over all relevant information to the killing and also asked relevant authorities in Lebanon to turn over all information that is allegedly held by Nasrallah that pertains to the 2005 attack.

Hezbollah denied the UN request for considering that the UN tribunal has no credibility. However, on Friday, Hezbollah official Mohammed Fneish said that they will provide any information that the Lebanese government asks for, even if it would be handed in turn to the UN.

On February 14, 2005, PM Rafik Hariri was killed by an explosion that caught his motorcade in Beirut. His second son Saad Hariri took on his father’s political path and is the current Lebanese Prime Minister.

The Special Tribunal is an independent body that was organized in The Hague in the Netherlands, following an investigation that revealed that Lebanon’s own investigation into the car bombing that killed the former Prime Minister was seriously flawed and revealed that Syria was responsible for the political tensions that followed the attack.
