High profile climate change skeptic acknowledges global warming in new book
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK (BNO NEWS) – Bjørn Lomborg, a high-profile global warming skeptic is expected to announce in a new book that will be published next month that global warming is, in fact, “undoubtedly one of the chief concerns facing the world today” and a “challenge humanity must confront,” the Guardian reported on Monday.
Lomborg, a self-styled “skeptical environmentalist” that was once compared to Adolf Hitler by the UN’s climate chief is famous for attacking c limate scientists, campaigners, the media, and others for exaggerating the rate of global warming and its effect on humans. He has long criticized costly policies to confront the problem.
However, in a new book that will be published in September, Lomborg will call for $100 billion to be invested annually into confronting and resolving the issue by the end of the century. He examines eight methods to reduce or stop global warming and recommends, along with fellow economists, to pour money into researching clean energy sources such as wind, wave, solar, and nuclear power while working on climate engineering concepts.
His conclusion is likely to be a victory for the environmental lobby as such a skeptic is making an apparent U-turn. In an interview with the Guardian, Lomborg said that he would finances this investment through a tax on carbon emissions that would raise $50 billion to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Lomborg claims that he is not making an about face, but rather that he has acknowledged the existence and challenge of climate change for a long time. However, he says that he continues to point out that climate change is not the end of the world and the money spent to correct the problem should be spend wisely.
