Tropical Depression 10-E forms off Mexico’s coast; no threat to land

MIAMI (BNO NEWS) — Tropical Depression 10-E formed over the northeastern Pacific Ocean on early Friday morning, forecasters said, but there is no immediate threat to land.

Forecasters at the Miami-based U.S. National Hurricane Center said the tropical depression formed about 325 kilometers (205 miles) south of the resort of Los Cabos, located in Mexico’s Baja California Sur state.

Tropical Depression 10-E is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 kilometer (8 miles) per hour. No land is currently threatened.

As of 8 a.m. PDT (1500 GMT) on Wednesday, the depression had maximum sustained winds near 55 kilometers (35 miles) per hour, with higher gusts. “Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours. Only a small increase in organization would bring the cyclone up to tropical storm intensity,” said the Miami-based center.

If 10-E does indeed become a tropical storm, it will be named Georgette.
