New Zealand Civil Defence: No fatalities reported after major earthquake

CHRISTCHURCH (BNO NEWS) — A major 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck near New Zealand’s second largest city on early Saturday morning, seismologists said, but only minor to moderate damage was reported.

The country’s Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management said it had no reports of fatalities, although minor injuries have been reported.
