LONDON (BNO NEWS) — British Member of Parliament Stephen Timms has been hospitalized after he was stabbed in his east London constituency on Friday afternoon, police said.
Police were called to Kingsford Way in east London at 3.20 p.m. local time, a police spokeswoman said. The spokeswoman, who refused to identity Timms by name, said a male in his 50s was taken to Royal London Hospital by ambulance.
The police spokeswoman said Timms’ injuries were not considered to be life threatening and said a 21-year-old woman was taken into custody after the stabbing. Her motive was not immediately known.
A spokesman for the Labour Party said the Metropolitan Police Department had confirmed that Timms – who is the former Treasury minister- was stabbed in east London. He refused to comment since they had not yet spoken to Timms in person.
Timms entered Parliament in 1994 as Labour’s MP for Newham North East. He was re-elected to the new constituency of East Ham in May 1997.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — Nine people were injured and three suspects were arrested after a mass shooting in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded to the 4000 block of South Capitol Street SE after a 911 call came in at 7.27 p.m. local time. At around the same time, a shooting was reported several blocks away.
“When the ladder truck from the closest station, that had a paramedic on board, arrived at the scene, they found a very chaotic situation,” a spokesman for the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services said. “Numerous victims, all apparent gunshot wounds. Additional resources, EMS crews and others, were called to the scene.”
Eight of the victims were found at the South Capitol Street SE shooting scene, while a ninth victim was found in the 1st block of Galveston Street. Five of the injured were suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds, while three others sustained moderate injuries. All of the shooting victims, except one teen, were in their 20s and 30s.
Earlier, a spokesman for the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services confirmed that one person had been killed in the shootings. A spokesman for the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department strongly denied that. “When we have a homicide, we will let you know,” he said.
Three males were arrested after the shootings, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed. It was not immediately clear where or when they were arrested.
NBC Washington reported that an AK47-type weapon was reportedly thrown from a green Sedan that police chased through parts of D.C. and across the Prince George’s County line. Four police officers were said to have been injured in a crash during that pursuit.

LAUGHLIN, NEVADA (BNO NEWS) — A car slammed into the Edgewater Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada on Wednesday, killing two people and injuring several others, officials said.
The accident happened around 9.30 a.m. local time when an elderly man drove his car at a high rate of speed into the main entrance of the building, said Officer Barbara Morgan, a spokeswoman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. “Two people have been confirmed deceased,” she said. The fatalities are casino customers.
Morgan said the 75-year-old driver, who was not injured, possibly had a medical episode, and said no drugs or alcohol were involved. “Three people have been transported with unknown injuries,” she said, adding that two other people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
A casino spokeswoman confirmed the incident, but had no other details. “We are assessing the situation,” she said.
The Edgewater Hotel and Casino is located in Laughlin, which is a census-designated place in Clark County, about 94 miles south of Las Vegas.
Authorities have asked drivers to avoid South Casino Drive in Laughlin, saying traffic will be delayed for hours.
