WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — The U.S. Department of the Army on Friday announced it would recall tens of thousands of Advanced Combat Helmets because they do not meet Army specifications.

The Army said approximately 44,000 helmets would be recalled, representing about 4 percent of Advanced Combat Helmets issued to soldiers worldwide.

BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) — A U.S. soldier died of non-combat related injuries in Iraq on Thursday, the U.S. Military said.

A brief statement from the U.S. Military said the soldier died of non-combat related injuries in Baghdad. It provided no further details on the cause.

The name of the deceased soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, and will be announced by the U.S. Department of Defense no earlier than 24 hours after notification of next of kin.

BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) — A U.S. soldier was killed in Baghdad on Thursday, the U.S. military said.

The soldier, attached to the United States Division – Center, was killed during combat operations. The military did not provide further details on his death.

The U.S. Department of Defense will release the identity of the soldier after notification of next of kin.

RAMADI, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) – A U.S. soldier died Tuesday in a vehicle related accident in Western Iraq, U.S. Forces in Iraq said.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until relatives are notified and an official release by the Department of Defense.

The case currently under investigation.

HAVANA, CUBA (BNO NEWS) – The United States and Cuba discussed in Havana the implementation of the U.S.-Cuba Migration Accords, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of State said on Friday.

This was the second meeting between both nations since the decision to renew the talks in 2009. In the meeting, the U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to promote safe, orderly, and legal migration. At the same time the U.S. delegation identified the obstacles that have impeded the full implementation of the Accords.

The U.S. also brought up the case of the U.S. citizen detained in the island. Alan Gross, 60, was detained on December 4. The Cuban government said that he was spying under U.S. orders. The U.S. delegation asked for his immediately release. The outcome of the petition was not disclosed.

REDMOND, WASHINGTON (BNO NEWS) — Microsoft and Yahoo! on Thursday announce that they have received clearance for their search agreement, without restrictions, from both the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission. The companies will now start the process of implementing the deal.

KABUL (BNO NEWS) — Three U.S. soldiers died in two separate incidents in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, NATO said.

The NATO-led ISAF alliance said two of the soldier died in an improvised explosive device (IED) strike, while a third soldier was killed in a second IED strike.

The casualties bring the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan this year to 25.

The identities of the soldiers will be announced by the U.S. Department of Defense not earlier than Monday.

A statement from the NATO-led ISAF alliance said the attack happened in southern Afghanistan, but provided no other details.

The casualties bring the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan this year to 21.

The identities of the soldiers will be announced by the U.S. Department of Defense not earlier than Sunday.

The identity of the soldier will be announced by the U.S. Department of Defense not earlier than Thursday.

A statement from the NATO-led ISAF alliance said the soldiers were from the United States and died from their wounds after the attack in southern Afghanistan. No other details were immediately released.

The casualties bring the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan this year to 18.

The identities of the soldiers will be announced by the U.S. Department of Defense no earlier than Wednesday.
